We would love you to take a few minutes to read the inspirational story of one of our clients – Mrs B.

Living on her own at home with no immediate family or loved ones to look after her, Mrs B who was starting to suffer with dementia, decided she would like a few days respite care in a Nursing Home over the Christmas period. However, what was meant to only be a few days turned into three years, during which time Mrs B had become immobile, skeletal in appearance, withdrawn and disengaged from life.

Mrs B’s Attorney – a lawyer appointed to make decision on Mrs B’s behalf and act in her best interests – contacted Paladin Advocates to review Mrs B’s mental capacity and care provision. After meeting Mrs B, it soon became clear that she wished to return to her own home therefore Paladin set about making this happen.

Mrs B’s house was in a very poor state of repair – Paladin modernised and refurbished it so that it was not only suitable to meet Mrs B’s level of needs i.e. with appropriate care modifications/equipment but also so that it was a warm and welcoming sanctuary for her return. Throughout Paladin’s primary goal was to tailor a package of care specifically designed to meet Mrs B’s needs in the round. With the help of excellent care agencies and in particular, a live-in carer chosen to compliment Mrs B’s own personality this has been achieved.

In little over a year back at home, Mrs B’s progress has been truly remarkable. As part of her Care Plan she has completed a course of physiotherapy helping improve her mobility and sitting balance and she attends a weekly memory clinic. She now enjoys regular days out with her carer and has recently joined the National Trust. Mrs B also has a passion for musical theatre and loves to sing along to musical DVD’s together with her new budgie ‘Scottie’!

At Paladin it is our mission to give all of our clients the dignity and freedom of choice they deserve and we truly believe in expanding the possibilities. We hope Mrs B’s story inspires you to know that this is achievable!
