Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) Services in the UK

What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

Planning ahead is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your future. At Paladin Advocates & Attorneys, we make setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) simple, clear and stress-free.

An LPA is a legal document that lets you appoint someone you trust to make decisions if you lose mental capacity. There are two types:

  • Health and Welfare LPA for decisions about care, medical treatment and living arrangements.
  • Property and Financial Affairs LPA for managing money, bills, property and investments.

We guide you through every step, ensuring your choices reflect your wishes and values.

Why Create an LPA?

An LPA gives you control over who makes decisions for you, avoids costly court delays and provides peace of mind for you and your family.

How We Help

We offer clear advice, prepare and register your LPA with the Office of the Public Guardian and help you choose the right attorneys. If you don’t have someone suitable, Anne Reed, our Managing Director, can act as your professional attorney, ensuring your affairs are managed with integrity and care.

Appointing a Professional Attorney – Anne Reed

If you don’t have a trusted family member or friend to act on your behalf, you can appoint a professional attorney. Anne Reed offers this service with independence, expertise and compassion. With extensive experience in legal, clinical and care matters, she provides sound decision-making and ensures full compliance with legal and ethical responsibilities.

Anne can also represent you at hospital consultations, Social Services assessments and family meetings, as well as provide expert reports, practical advice and advocacy support. When urgent action is needed, she responds quickly and can visit clients across the UK, whether at home, in hospital or in care settings.

By appointing Anne, you ensure your affairs are managed professionally, ethically and with your wellbeing as the priority.

Changing or Updating an LPA

Sometimes circumstances change, and your Lasting Power of Attorney may need to be reviewed. We can help if you have concerns about misuse or abuse of power, need to remove or replace an attorney or resolve disputes between attorneys or family members. We also assist with revoking or amending an existing LPA, ensuring everything is handled legally and with discretion.

Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA)

If you signed an Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) before 1 October 2007, it is still valid – but only for financial matters. EPAs do not cover health and welfare decisions. For full protection, we recommend updating to a Lasting Power of Attorney, which offers broader authority and ensures your wishes are respected in all areas of life.

Planning for the Future

We can integrate your LPA into wider estate and care planning, advise on Deputyship applications and support clients with conditions such as dementia or stroke.
